Racing Toronto from out of town: where to stay, how to move

GoodLife HYROX Toronto runs October 1 to 4, 2026, at Enercare Centre on the Exhibition Place grounds, right by the lake and a short hop from downtown. For a visiting athlete it's about as convenient as a race city gets: two airports, a train to the venue's doorstep, and beds within walking distance of the start line. Here's the logistics, solved once.

When should you book travel?

After you understand one quirk: your race day is assigned with your start wave, so a Toronto entry can mean racing Thursday or racing Sunday. That leaves two sane strategies. Book the whole Thursday-to-Sunday window and enjoy the city around your race, or wait until the organizer confirms your day and book tight. What you shouldn't do is guess a day and book non-refundable around it.

Which airport should you fly into?

Billy Bishop if you can, Pearson if you can't. Billy Bishop is the small airport on the Toronto Islands, essentially downtown, so you're at your hotel minutes after landing. Pearson is the major international hub northwest of the city, and the UP Express train runs from there to Union Station downtown in under half an hour. From Union, the venue is one GO train stop or a streetcar ride away, so even the long way in is short.

Where should you stay?

Three sensible rings, closest first.

• On the grounds: Hotel X Toronto sits on Exhibition Place itself, a few minutes' walk from Enercare Centre. Roll out of bed, walk to your wave. It books up around big events, so move early. (Our where to stay guide goes deeper on all three rings.)
• Liberty Village: the neighbourhood just north of the grounds, walkable to the venue and dense with coffee, food, and, not coincidentally, several of the city's Hyrox-style gyms.
• Downtown near Union: the biggest pool of hotels at every price. You're one GO stop or a 509 streetcar from the venue, and central for everything else you'd want from a Toronto weekend.

How do you get to the venue on race day?

Without a car. From Union Station, take the GO train one stop to Exhibition station, then walk about ten minutes to Enercare Centre, or ride the 509 streetcar toward the grounds. From the Bloor subway line, the 511 streetcar runs south from Bathurst station. For Enercare Centre specifically, the Strachan Avenue streetcar stop by the Princes' Gates is the closest one. If you're staying at Hotel X or in Liberty Village, it's a walk. Exhibition Place has parking, but a rental car in downtown Toronto is a solution looking for a problem.

What about food?

Liberty Village and King West, both minutes from the venue, have more restaurants than you'll have meals. The only advice worth giving is the boring kind: the night before your wave, eat something you've eaten before. Toronto's food scene will still be there after you finish, and everything tastes better with a race behind you.
