Hyrox divisions and weights, explained

What actually changes between open, pro, doubles and relay: the sled, carry, lunge and wall ball loads for every division, from the current official rulebook.

Every Hyrox race is the same race: eight 1 km runs alternating with eight stations in a fixed order. What changes between divisions is who does the work and how heavy it is. That second part is where the confusion lives, so here it is station by station, from the official Season 26/27 rulebooks. Hyrox can adjust loads between seasons, so treat the current rulebook as the final word.

What stays the same in every division?

The format and the distances. SkiErg 1,000 m, sled push 50 m (4 lengths of 12.5 m), sled pull 50 m, burpee broad jumps 80 m, row 1,000 m, farmers carry 200 m, sandbag lunges 100 m, and 100 wall balls. Eight kilometres of running around all of it, and the roxzone transitions count toward your time. No division skips anything.

What actually changes between open and pro?

The loads, and only the loads. From the current singles rulebook:

  • Sled push: women open 102 kg, men open and women pro 152 kg, men pro 202 kg (all including the sled).
  • Sled pull: women open 78 kg, men open and women pro 103 kg, men pro 153 kg.
  • Farmers carry: women open 2 x 16 kg, men open and women pro 2 x 24 kg, men pro 2 x 32 kg.
  • Sandbag lunges: women open 10 kg, men open and women pro 20 kg, men pro 30 kg.
  • Wall balls: 100 reps for everyone. Women open throw 4 kg, men open and women pro throw 6 kg, men pro throw 9 kg.

Notice the pattern: women pro race the men's open loads. The one thing that doesn't follow that pattern is the wall ball target, which is set by sex, not division: 2.70 m for women, 3.00 m for men, pro or not.

The ergs don't change at all. A 1,000 m ski is a 1,000 m ski whether you're open or pro, which is either comforting or not, depending on your relationship with the SkiErg.

How do doubles weights work?

The persistent myth is that doubles weights are halved. They aren't. A doubles pair faces exactly the loads of the equivalent singles division: women's doubles at women's open loads, men's doubles at men's open loads, pro doubles at the pro loads. What you split is the work, not the weight. Both partners run every 1 km together, then one athlete works the station while the other rests, switching whenever you like (the resting partner stays on their feet).

Mixed doubles is the one that surprises people: it races the men's open tier on the loaded stations. That means a 152 kg sled push, 103 kg pull, 2 x 24 kg carry, 20 kg lunges and a 6 kg wall ball for both partners. Wall ball targets still follow sex, so she throws to 2.70 m and he throws to 3.00 m, same ball. How a pair divides that load is the whole strategic game, and we've written up who should take what separately.

What does relay change?

Relay splits the race four ways. Each teammate runs 2 x 1 km and completes two stations, and which legs each person takes is entirely up to the team. Loads are the open weights for each athlete's sex. It's the lightest way into a Hyrox weekend: a quarter of the running, a quarter of the stations, all of the atmosphere.

Which division should you pick?

Open is the honest default, and there's no promotion exam: pro is a choice, not a rank. Pick pro when the pro loads are weights you move comfortably in training, not weights you're hoping to survive. First race, pick open or doubles and spend your ambition on pacing instead; our first-race checklist covers everything else worth sorting before the start line.

Quick answers

What is the difference between Hyrox open and pro?
The course is identical; the loads are not. Pro men push a 202 kg sled against 152 kg in open, and throw a 9 kg wall ball instead of 6 kg. Pro women race the men's open loads with a 6 kg ball.
Are Hyrox doubles weights half the singles weights?
No. A doubles pair faces the same loads as the equivalent singles division. You split the reps and metres between you, never the weight.
What weights do mixed doubles use?
Mixed doubles uses the men's open tier on the loaded stations: 152 kg sled push, 103 kg sled pull, 2 x 24 kg farmers carry, 20 kg sandbag and a 6 kg wall ball. Wall ball target heights stay per sex.
Do wall ball reps change by division?
No. Every division does 100 reps. What changes is the ball, 4, 6 or 9 kg, and the target height, which follows sex, not division: 2.70 m for women, 3.00 m for men.
What does the relay division involve?
A team of four. Each teammate runs 2 x 1 km and completes two stations, split however the team likes, at open loads for their sex.
